Layer: Local Potential Contamination Sources (ID: 8)

Name: Local Potential Contamination Sources

Display Field: PCS_NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPoint

Description: This dataset includes sites that represent a potential threat to drinking water supplies because they may use, handle, or store hazardous substances. The locations of the point features were based on marked up drawings provided by the Water Suppliers. These hardcopy documents were reviewed and their location interpolated from a combination of aerial photography and vector base map data (Department of Transportation (DOT) roadways and town political boundaries). At best, they represent an approximate location of the actual potential contamination source (PCS).The PCS layer may contain data submitted by local entities that may exist in other DES databases (e.g., Aboveground Storage Tanks, Underground Storage Tanks, Contaminated Sites and Areas (SWHI), Hazardous Waste Points and Areas (RCRA), and Auto Salvage (Junkyards)). However, updates of new PCS sites should exclude sites already contained in other DES maintained GIS data layers.
